Drama Club 2018

Welcome to Drama Club!
We are so excited to now have Drama Club profiled during our school day, providing an opportunity for every child in the school to learn new skills and techniques, build confidence and
have fun through Drama.
We look forward to keeping you updated throughout the year with what we are learning.

It's happening!

Our Witherlea whanau will be thrilled to know we are back in 2018 with a production bigger than last year! The Senior Drama Club will be performing and end of year play... all details are tightly guarded, but there are a few cats involved!
The Junior Drama Club will host a end of term 3 assembly where they will perform poems and a show you are few Drama games.  The date for the assembly will be on Friday 28th September.
Keep posted for the dates for our senior performance in December.

Hot Seating

Here are some photos of our Senior Drama Club learning to Hot Seating; a great technique to develop and understand characters, their feelings and reasons for their actions.
Don't worry, Emma is in character!  She is playing "Sleepy" from the 7 dwarfs!

Gala Performance

What a perfect day for a little bit of acting out!  Some member of the Drama Club performed for a fantastic crowd at the Witherlea School Gala today... great job at projecting your voices and remembering to over exaggerate your facial expressions for the crowd!

Facial Expressions!

Every week we will be working on a different part of acting. The first week we looked at how we can use our voice: high, low, short, fast etc.

This week we worked on facial expressions. I wonder if you can work out the feelings and emotions that these children are trying to portray with their amazing expressions?

We also did an activity called Slow Motion Samurai , which encourages the students to think carefully about every expression they make and focus on the way they can change it.

End of Year Action!

The Witherlea School Drama Club is gearing up for some serious action at the end of the term!
We are all practising hard out for a special performance on Thursday 7th December from 2.15pm in the hall to celebrate Mr Hewson's time at Witherlea.
We will then have our big end of year show as part of the Certificate Assembly on Monday 11th December. We have a show that will have you in stitches... The Legend of Lightning Larry.
You won't want to miss any of the action... hope to see you all then.

Welcome to Drama Club at Witherlea School!

What a fantastic opportunity we have in 2017 to have our very own Drama Club operating every Thursday lunchtime.  The Arts Team and I were ecstatic to have had such an amazing turn out for our first term of Drama Club.
The Club is now offering a session on odd weeks for Juniors (Yr 3/4) and then even weeks Seniors (Yr 5/6) on Thursday lunchtimes in the hall.

Exciting news for this term includes a social performance at the Witherlea Gala on Sunday 19th March!  We will also have an end of term performance at the end of the term at the final full school assembly.

Just remember, it's our student's responsibility to check the blog and the school notices to keep up to date with what is happening and when...

Here are some photos of what we have been up to so far.

First session, over 80 students joined!
